Do you worry about the Competition?

by: Chris Bibey

When playing poker, you have a lot of things going on around you. Not only do you need to control your own thoughts and cards, but you will also be staring across the table at other players. What do you think of your competition? Do you worry about them? Or do you sit back and do your own thing?

For the most part, it is important to take care of your own business first. This does not mean that you should ignore the competition, but if you are not doing what is best for you, you are going to struggle to get your feet off the ground. Your strategy comes first. From there, you can then begin to worry about what the competition is doing.

But my strategy is based on the competition? This may very well be true. In many cases, you will realize that the way you play your hand is based on what others are doing. Do you want to bluff the other players? Are you going to get aggressive? The way that you answer these questions will have a lot to do with your competition. But even then, everything stems back to what you have in your hand. Unless you understand your cards and your strategy you will not know how to attack your opponents.

As a beginner, you will want to spend most of your time worrying about yourself. As your experience grows, you can continue to develop your own skills while also devising a plan for attacking the competition. Poker is a game that takes time to become good at. If you are willing to take the proper steps you will eventually learn what it takes to best the competition. And when this happens, your earnings will increase exponentially.
