When playing a game of poker, you should always be watching your competition. And while you want to do so in order to win the hand, you should also be learning from them if at all possible. For instance, you may find out soon enough that one player has a laid back style accompanied by a lot of bluffing. While this may not be the exact way that you play, you can incorporate some of these skills into your game. Even if you never put what you learn to good use for yourself, every detail will help in the future.

Of course, you may also want to ask other poker players for help on an individual basis. If you are new to the game, you could more or less ask a more experienced player to tutor you. At the very least, they may be able to put you on the right track so that you can avoid many common startup mistakes.

You can learn a lot from other poker players; this is not a myth. No matter what position you are in, you should never stop learning. Make sure that you do so when playing, or that you take advantage of an opportunity to learn one-on-one from another.
