How long have you been Playing Poker?

by: Chris Bibey

Does the amount of time you have been playing poker have anything to do with the success that you achieve? The answer to this question is simple: yes. While not always the case, players with more experience are usually more successful. This is because they have seen a lot of situations, and in turn know what move to make. That being said, there are many poker players who have been competing for many years but are far from being a professional.

If you have not been playing poker for a long time, you should not let this discourage you. Remember, even those with a lot of experience started in the same position as you. For every player, there was a time when they were new to the game and simply trying to get off to a good start. For this reason, you should never feel like less of a player just because you are new to the game. As long as you know the rules and are willing to play according to them, there is nothing to be worried about. Sure, you may lose to a more experienced player, but this is how you learn.

Of course, experience does not always translate into success. Even the most experienced player runs into hands when they are getting dealt bad cards or having a difficult time making the right moves. Just like any game, you should expect ups and downs when playing poker. And hopefully, as you play more and more you will experience more highs than lows.

Do not worry so much about how long you have been playing poker. Instead, worry about knowing the finer details of the game and having a strategy. From there, you will begin to accumulate experience over time.
