How to Treat Poker Winnings

by: Chris Bibey

If you are going to play poker you are expecting to win. That being said, what are you going to do with the winnings that you accumulate? If you are not careful with your earnings you may find yourself wasting it all and back at square one. No matter how good of a poker player you are, you need to have money management skills in order to become a total success.

A lot of how you treat your poker winnings has to do with the amount that you take home. For instance, the way that you handle a couple hundred dollars will be much different than if you win tens of thousands of dollars. But no matter what, you should have an idea of what you are going to do.

Some poker players take their winnings and put them straight back into the game; maybe not on the same day, but eventually. Is this a good idea? It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you want to continue playing, you will need money to do so. For this reason, keeping some money for future bets seems like a good idea.

Of course, there are others who like to save all their winnings. This is especially true among those who aspire to play poker as a way of making a living. After all, if your poker earnings are paying the bills you need to make sure that you save some money. This does not mean that you have to quit playing, though. Simply put, you will save the money that you win and use other funds as you move forward.

One thing is for sure: your poker winnings belong to you. This means that you can treat this money however you please. Just remember to be smart when deciding what to do with your money.
