As a matter of fact, in the entire history of the WSOP, only four other players have managed more wins than this 33 year old resident of Las Vegas Nevada, who originally hails for Riverside California, but grew up in Absecon New Jersey. Affectionately known as the “Tiger Woods of Poker”, due to his physical resemblance to the well known golfer as well as his seemingly uncanny ability to consistently blow some of the best players in the game out of the water in highly publicized international events, Ivey has managed to become one of the most well known poker personalities in the world.
Far from modest, Ivey was quoted as saying he believes himself to be capable of winning 30 WSOP bracelets after his latest victory in this year’s $3,000 mixed H.O.R.S.E event, which earned him a total of $330,000 dollars. But this phenomenal card slinger does indeed have plenty to boast about; prior to this year’s tournament, his combined career winnings in live events alone exceeded the 13 million dollar mark, over 5 million of which have consisted of monies earned in WSOP events. What is even more astounding is that although Ivey has never won a Hold’em event, he excels at a variety of mixed games and has claimed titles in Pot Limit Omaha, Seven Card Stud, 2-7 Draw Lowball, Omaha hi/lo, S.H.O.E and of course, H.O.R.S.E.
But despite his notoriety, highly publicized skills and smug demeanor Ivey is by no means without a heart. In fact, he is a well known philanthropist whose charitable works include financial and physical involvement in programs geared at feeding the homeless and helping underprivileged children.
